Black money battle: Income tax notices slapped on 1.16 lakh individuals for deposit over Rs 25 lakh New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has slapped notices on 1.16 lakh individuals and firms who made cash deposits of more than Rs 25 lakh in bank accounts post note ban but failed to file returns by the due date, CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra said. Besides, large cash deposit by people who have filed I-T returns are also under close scrutiny, he said. The tax department has combed as many as 18 lakh people who had deposited junked 500 and 1000 rupee currency notes of over Rs 2.5 lakh each post demonetisation. "There are 1.16 lakh people who have deposited more than Rs 25 lakh in cash after demonetisation in old currency notes but still not filed their returns," he told PTI here. Cyclone Ockhi: Indian Coast Guard aircraft locates 15 fishing boats off Lakshadweep, rushes relief During the ongoing search and rescue operation to locate fishermen stranded due to Cyclone Ockhi, the Indian Coast Guard on Tuesday provided relief to the crew of 15 fishing boats after sighting them in the sea off Lakshadweep. I n a press release, the Coast Guard said that a Dornier aircraft on search mission found the cluster of fishing boats about 40 kilometres apart from each other, and 125 kilometres from Bitra island. The Coast Guard ship Samrat was immediately diverted to provide assistance to the fishing boats. Fourteen of the boats belonged to Tamil Nadu, while one boat belonged to Kerala. " ICGS Samrat further has been directed to vector the fishing boats to shelter area near Bitra island," the press statement said.
